WRITING OBSTACLE
Write a short story or poem about a couple’s anniversary that uses weather as a motif.
Motifs can affect a reader’s view of characters and story greatly. You could use adjectives typically used for weather to create the characters, or metaphors of weather to describe relationships and scenarios.
Catastrophic Love
Twenty years ago
I was a rain cloud floating by
Drifting aimlessly
Flooding cities with my cries
But then you came along
I heard your voice from far away
I felt your spotlight crackle
Felt my own despair decay
And when we met, I felt a spark
Your laughter shook the ground
I knew I would do anything
To recreate that sound
So here we are, both you and I
A raging storm above
I’ll circle you forever
And spread our catastrophic love
