Hide And Seek

In the old wooden house, there was a game of hide and seek. The boy closed his eyes and sighed, and then he peeked. He tiptoed through the forgotten house, where he once practically lived. Calling out for Ana, his childhood best friend. His words floated so easily, yet not because he knew what to call. No, there was a dearth of care in his voice, and meaningless words don’t weigh down the heart. He begged and promised, “I’ll find you soon,” yet Ana knew better, he’d be gone before noon. She sang back, “If only that were true, if only you knew what to do. You’re a fool, and like a bee. So who will it be, your flower or me?” She no longer needed the boy, who played her like a toy. This Barbie could be anything, so she would be free. The lies that came with the ring, will no longer bring her to her knees.

Then there was a buzz, that came from the boy’s pocket. He looked longingly at his phone, then suddenly dropped it. He swore, he cried, “I didn’t mean no harm!” Yet the damage done, the girl sounded the alarm, she had finally won. The post of her pain, the look of vain, all came crashing down. He looked around, “I’ll find you monster, this will ruin my career.” “You should’ve thought of that,” she called back, and then let loose a tear. This game of hide and seek was real, the girl could truly feel. He grabbed a knife, because he was blind, by rage and humiliating fear.

There was a buzz, but now from the door, as Violet took a step. She saw his craze, his wild daze, and she felt lost in the maze. He looked at her and claimed to be sane, as Ana slid past the window pane. “Ana please, take it back. Violet don’t scream, I won’t attack.” Yet it was too late, she took a plate and flung it at his head. He ducked, as she said, “Your luck has its end, I talked to Ana, my new friend. The police are coming, you cheating freak.” Ana came by her side hummingly, “I guess you found me, yet it’s too late, the game has come to its demise. If only you could be wise; know who to seek and you would’ve been fine.” The sirens wailed, he felt impaled. His brain traced back to the picture he’d seen, of the flower and the bee, and the other of his wife soon to be. He was greedy, he could see, yet he still could not believe. He always thought he would win this game, and win hide and seek.
