WRITING OBSTACLE
Create a scene that shows the readers how a character embodies both of the following words: sharp and tender.
Devil's Train
_A/N: This is based off of the song, Devil's Train, by The Lab Rats. The story here is based off of the meaning behind it, contains some of the lyrics, and I would totally recommend you to listen to it!_
The rain patters down onto the pavement as quiet panting fills the outside. A man is running, away from who knows what. His footsteps are heavy, kicking the gravel that is dusted alongside the ground as he suddenly stops, taking shaky breaths in and out as to regain some sense of control, whether it be over his breathing or his heart rate, which was at a solid 106. Taking a couple quick and panicked glances around, he lets out another labored breath as he realizes that the thing that had previously begun to chase him down had stopped, nowhere to be seen.
Muttering underneath his breath, he would look for something nearby to not be poured down upon by the rain above him, and to his extent, found nothing. Yet all of a sudden, he stops, his eyes falling on what seemed to be a figure in the distance. It was of course, hard to see beneath the layers upon layers of fog that had covered the area, and the rain that was making the train tracks wet and everything else drenched, yet the man was able to make out a few details.
The man across from him had a wide grin, one that seemed to shine in the current situation, despite all of the things that had been mentioned above. It also seemed to have blonde-tanned brown messy hair, styled in the way that the original individual had, which was a bit odd at first. Perhaps the figure had just liked the hairstyle? It had confused him even further, as well as the suit that the other was wearing, it seemed like an exact replica-
"Well howdy!" The voice suddenly speaks up from afar. Despite it sounding so close, it sounded like an echo, from a canyon which was far, far away. The man stops, hearing the other person that had spoken up, and swallows as he comes closer. "And you must be Mr. Brown, am I right or not?" The other man would end his sentence off with a laugh, now having stood in front of "Mr. Brown". It's quiet for some time, until he replies.
"Call me Brian. Please." Mr. Brown, or Brian would reply to the figure in front of him, still keeping a worried and or wary expression on his face as he shifts backwards. The other individual would hum quietly, looking Brian up and down in an almost mirroring mannerism. It takes another step, eyeing Brian with a slight look of interest as it had spoken up once more.
"Well, then, Brian. It's a nice night for a walk, would you mind if I joined you?" The individual would ask as it cocks its head as well. Brian shrugs. "Do what you wanna do." He replies, keeping that same wary and cautious tone. "That's great, 'cause I'm going to!" The individual snickers, holding a hand out and continuing, still keeping that same, sharp grin on his face as he does so.
"The 'names Belial. Pleased to meet ya'." The other figure, or now also known as Belial still holds his hand out, waiting for Brian to have shaken it. Brian would eye Belial's hand carefully, with slight awe and still having that very faint feeling that something was wrong. Deciding to have shrugged that feeling aside for now, he carefully takes Belial's hand into his own, and shakes it firmly once, and ends the handshake a bit faster than usual due to the atmosphere and the clearly worried feeling he had felt.
Belial would chuckle as he could tell that the other man was tense. The grin somehow gets all the more bigger, and Belial would speak up once again, mimicking Brian's current motions as he crosses his arms, the same thing that Brian had been doing at the moment. "Well aren't you a tense person! Come on, relax a little! I ain't gonna hurt ya." Belial nudges Brian with his shoulder, which emitted a grumble from the man.
Brian sighs, rubbing the bridge of his noise as he responds to Belial's sentence, clearly taking on a tone that was annoyed now, as well as a bit sarcastic as well. "Yes. I'm positive that the exact clone of me won't hurt me. How very convincing." He rolls his eyes, Belial doing the same. Belial would also put a hand on his chest in mock offense, scoffing dramatically.
"Well, OUCH. That's a bit offensive, coming from someone like you. And hey! If you think about it, aren't we the same person? So technically, you're insulting yourself here!" Belial retorts, shifting even closer into Brian's space. Brian would stop at that, taking consideration of the statement. Yet all of a sudden once more, Belial speaks up once more, a question interrupting his own question.
"Not to annoy you, but see I really had to ask what a young dude like you is doing out by the tracks." Belial holds his hands behind his back as he starts to circle around Brian, keeping a narrow gaze on him as he suddenly speaks up into Brian's ear, his voice having the faintest echo to it, as if it were another being speaking up entirely. **_"You waitin' on the train?"_**
Brian stumbles back, inhaling sharply. His pulse spikes up again, looking over Belial with clear concern now that he had heard the audible error in the other individual's voice. "N-no. Not entirely." He replies with a nervous stutter which had quickly flooded his voice. his eyes darting back and forth before eventually falling back on the figure in front of him, which was quietly chuckling.
"Oh, you are such a jumpy individual. I like you, kid. Let's make a deal." Belial grins somehow even wider as he continues to circle around Brian, still eyeing him with that same goddamn glare that sent a shudder up his spine. "You'll get all you want in life for the price of your soul, all the money you can fold, power that you can hold. I'll put you in control, only if you're down to roll down these train tracks tonight."
Brian swallows, shifting in his position as he takes in the deal. He could see Belial extending a hand, the hand having a slight red glow to it. Was this really a good idea? Brian thought to himself. His Grandfather had warned him of this before, not to deal with strangers, yet his curiosity had quickly overtaken him and he shook Belial's hand, asking a final question.
"But where we gonna go?"
