The Tunnels

When and why the tunnels were built is unknown. Some people say that they have simply always been. They are a sight to be seen in the daylight, but the night gives them an exceptional quality. The tunnels are candlelit at night, with the flickering light bouncing off the stark limestone walls. It’s almost like a siren’s song, drawing passersby into its cylindrical trap.

Long ago, a young child was lost in the tunnels. A search party was assembled and combed the tunnels, but before the child could be found, a wicked blizzard materialized. The party disbanded except for the grief-stricken parents. They continued to search into the frigid night. The following day, the three bodies were found frozen together mere feet from the exit. Legend has it that the family never left the tunnels, and on cold nights, their apparitions can be seen walking hand in hand, searching for the exit.

In the years following, many wandered into the tunnels and were never seen again. Still, those who made it out alive told the same story of a family’s beckoning apparition, drawing them deeper into the heart of the tunnels. Warnings of the tunnels have been passed down through the ages but have only served to attract more people. So if you find yourself near the tunnels on a cold dark night, beware because under their majesty hides only horrors and heartbreak.
