POEM STARTER
Write a poem about the experience of déjà vu.
Have you written something like this before? That feeling of having done, said, or been somewhere before is a universal experience.
Things I’ve Seen Before
I’ve been here before.
Or maybe I dreamed it.
A flicker, a whisper,
A shadow, I’ve seen it.
The clock ticks twice,
But it’s still the same hour,
The words on your lips
Taste strangely sour.
A laugh I remember,
A look I recall,
But I swear it’s the first time
I’ve seen it at all.
It’s a glitch in the seams,
A thread coming loose,
A loop in my mind
I didn’t choose.
A face in the crowd,
A chill in the air,
A voice in my head
That says, “You were there.”
And just as it comes,
It flickers, it’s gone,
Leaving me wondering
What world I’m upon.
