A Godless Temple

Like a jaguar on the prowl,

He thirsted for my blood because legend said it tasted of wine.

Lust occupied space in his eyes,

Swallowing my virginity the way all black holes operate,

Painting my sheets in shame and sweat.

He used to say he was down to Earth

And I was breaking ground on Mars.

I wrote his name in the galaxies

As if he were my destiny.

He wanted out of the Milky Way

To be a star in someone else’s sky.

I felt the tether break

And I defied gravity by falling in love

But couldn’t stop from spiraling

And lost myself somewhere between universes.

So I broke my silence with God

And I asked him for directions to the nearest payphone;

There’s someone in Heaven I need to call.
