Bro Really Had No Idea
“Samuel?”
I jerked my head up to stare back into her big brown eyes. They held question marks. My fingertips stilled their nervous drumming on he tabletop and I curled them tightly around the coffee cup in front of me.
“What’s wrong?”
“Uh,” I gulped, “Well, I wanted to meet up here because I need to tell you something.”
“Obviously…” she cocked her head and gave a little grin, half confused and half making fun.
“I’m not sure how to say this, but I’m a superhero.”
She just sat there, an amused expression in her face.
“I’m not like Superman or anything, like I cant fly or anything like that. I’m just… different and I’ve got this power…” I was trying to save myself, but her amused expression remained.
“Go on, tell me about this power of yours.”
“Well, I can deduct the future. And…I’m a little ashamed to say this… but the government’s been using me for years. It’s not like I wanted this or anything?” I hastily added, “I’m being paid big numbers, and- what’s with the smile babe, I don’t get it!” Exasperated, I finally addressed the elephant in the room. Her complete lack of surprise astonished me!
“Honey, I know,” she smiled gently and caressed my white knuckles, which still gripped the coffee cup. “Now I have something to tell YOU,” her impish smile reappeared as she dug in her bag and pulled out a business card.
“Federal Bureau of Investigation,” I read; and beneath it, her name, “Eve Henderson.”
“What?” came my weak response.
“You, my dear, have proven most helpful. The information you have provided cannot be attained elsewhere.”
“You? You were the person I was emailing my visions to?” I recognized those words she spoke, “and for six years…?”
“Yes. This, my dear, is why I’m in love with you.”
