Heat filled days are for adventures

For a young girl running outside

Exploring nearby yards for treasures-

While trying not to let her skin get fried

Finding shady spots to beat the heat

Sunscreen slathered on her nose

And for a cool refreshing treat

Gulping water from a green hose

Birds sing in the leafy green trees

The sun calls for something sweet

In flower gardens filled with honeybees

Ice cream drips onto her feet

Days are filled with games and friends

As sun turns grass from green to gold

School looms at the summer’s end

But for now, she forgets the winter cold

Years from now she’ll remember

Long after toys are tucked away

Blooming marigolds, skies of ember

And the heat of the day
