All The Effects

Daisy sat in the backseat of the car, giggling. Her parents were driving her to the museum, a place they rarely went because it was faraway, and in their new car!

It was going to be amazing!

The new car was so big and shiny and electric. And Daisy looked out the window, as the car whooshed by. They were driving on a highway.

Suddenly, the car stopped.

Daisy didn’t know what was happening at that moment, just a sudden shock. Just knew that none of the other cars were electric.

The car behind them tried to suddenly slow down, when it realized the car in front of them skidded to a stop, but it was on a highway, and it failed to.

BANG!

And all Daisy could remember after that was the pain.

The lights went out. Alex screamed.

He had nyctophobia. An irrational phobia of the dark, and what could be hiding in it. The electricity had never gone out in this area before and this struck him to the core.

He could feel his senses sharpen, his desperation edging up, as much as he tried to calm it.

Alex took a slow deep breath like he’d been taught to do in therapy.

“It is dark, but no different from light,” he repeated, softly, under his breath. A mantra he’d been thought to use as a comfort

Very carefully, he opened the drawer next to him, took out a candle, and lit it.

Alex stared at the flickering light for a moment, remembering years of therapy, and decided he could get through this. He could wait for the electricity to come back.

“It is dark, but no different from light,” he took a deep breath, the words giving him some semblance of solace.

Paulina rushed around, trying to get immediate support. Chaos was erupting everywhere in the hospital, people trying to save those who were relying on machines

Those like Paulina’s sister, Elina.

Paulina screamed, trying to get help. Screamed and screamed and screamed.

Trying to get support.

But everyone was doing that, and a weighted feeling started settling in Paulina’s chest. Her sister had a life-threatening condition, and she shouldn’t’ve even been a moment without the machines.

Paulina broke. Her knees feel with a thud on the ground. No one noticed.

Elina died that night.

Authors note: I’m really, truly sorry if I wrote something that’s actually false or something that might be considered offensive.

Also, I know the prompt only said write ‘a scene’. I just had a lot of ideas. :)

Have a nice day!
