A Conversation Between Husband And Wife
LILY: Johnathon, I’ve been so uneasy throughout most of the day; wondering, fretting, over how Edward fared during his interview, wondering if his appointment was approved? Did he demonstrate strong communication skills, without becoming churlish?
JOHNATHON: My dear, I’m so sorry that I must be the one to tell you, that our son failed to solidify the position:—He was an utter disappointment unto himself, as well as a grave embarrassment to me. The moment he was confronted, questioned, by the presiding board members, he lashed out contemptuously, without restraint. Once he realized he’d lost control of his temper, defeat swept throughout his entire countenance. Recognition of his error, merely incapacitate his resolve. Remorse manifested in his body language:—his shoulders sagged, his eyes dimmed, his stature shrank to half its size.
LILY [Crestfallen]: And, and, what did you do, my love? As an active board member, as his father; did you make any attempt at all towards redeeming, or rectifying his awkward situation?
JOHNATHON [Ambivalent]: [Biting down on his lower lip, Johnathon merely shook his head no; causing Lily to break down, and cry.]
