POEM STARTER

'The stars smiled upon us, as if they knew we’d soon join them'…
Compose a poem that opens with this line.
Together.
The stars smiled upon us, as if they knew we’d join them soon.
A small smile spreads across my face even though the pain at my side has me shuddering.
Blood soaks my trembling hand as I reach down to see how much time I have left.
So much blood.
I keep my gaze ahead.
I’m lying on my back so my face is turned upwards towards the twinkling stars.
I feel him beside me, suffering the same fate. Gunshots wounds. I slowly move my hand to his. His grasps mine, squeezing a little to reassure we’d be doing this together.
I didn’t want to turn my head away from the beauty’s above. The smile was genuine. If we were going to die here, then we’d be doing it together.
Like always.
Together.
The guns lay beside us. It was more painful this way but we both wanted to see the stars as we died.
Together.
