Modern Day Masculinity
In todays day and age almost everything has become subjective. From entertainment, to what’s acceptable by society, to how one should carry himself. This used to be pretty cut and dry. A man was expected to be either mechanically useful, highly educated, or a combination of the two. Expected to work with his hands and be able to lead provide and protect. Now the same is expected without any level of structure. The checks and balances between men, women, and society as a whole seem to have disintegrated. The energy shift has caused a strain on everything from traditional relationships and marriage to religion. A young man growing in this current society must navigate this expectation of being both strong but not controlling. Capable and Confident, but not arrogant. A leader and protector but also a partner. The dynamic shift in society has made this almost impossible. A society that celebrates a lack of accountability, and self improvement has broken down the positive traits of masculinity for most men. A man used to be proud to work to provide. Coming home to a loving wife. Raising children with strong values. Leading his family towards a better life. Now to do all of this he must also accept that most do not hold these values themselves, but merely expect another to. If a man simply shows to much emotion his masculinity is questioned. If a man doesn’t allow his partner to be promiscuous it’s seen as a self confidence issue. If a man decides to pursue an online career he’s questioned why he doesn’t work with his hands. This shift in society has caused a large scale suppression within the male demographic. Especially in the young adult to middle age ranges. Men must bottle everything inside for fear of being seen as emotional, vain, or overly sensitive. **We** **are** **living in a society that spits in the face of the average man yet wonders why he’s so angry.**
