He pokes his nose in the air. Yes, there is definitely something there. Something edible. And he is hungry. It’s been over four days since he last ate. His stomach is growling...


She scurries over the cement, her toenails scratching its cold smoothness. She follows her nose to where she thinks there is a morsel of food. Where is it? Where is the aroma coming from?


He waits, staring intently without blinking.


She carefully turns the corner. She sees the food. The coast seems clear.


He sees her appear in the gloomy light.


She dashes out towards the tiny piece of bread.


He surges forward with one huge burst of energy.


The mouse sees him out of the corner of her eye.


He slams his fist down onto the ground.


The mouse jumps out of the way, just in time.


He swears.


She squeaks.


He leaps after her.


She runs back through the hole in the dirty wall.


He will try again tomorrow.


She will try again tomorrow.
