Most people believe that mental illness is rare and can barely happen to the people around them, which is not the case. It is often characterized by unusual thoughts, feelings, perceptions, behavior and relationships with other people. “Mental illness is very common and is often not recognized because of its different manifestations” (Weir, 2012). There is also barely enough awareness about mental illness and its side effects both in the US and in the world.

Interesting take on the prompt. Which sport are you connecting to mental illness? I’m also curious about the tautological conundrum of the Weir quote. If ‘mental illness is very common’ yet it it ‘not often recognized,’ how does Weir know that it is ‘very common?’ I think if you want to include that quote it may be helpful to support it. Similarly, what metric is used to justify the ‘barely enough awareness’ claim?

Note: Your topic is an important one and not to be downplayed. I’m just evaluating the writing.
