Long long ago, there is a big village located east of the Larzika river and west of the Machanan Mountain in the kingdom of Lois. The people there were all ordinary humans and they have been there for a long long time. Their neighbor is the Unan tribe, they are mysterious and kept to themselves. They had no contact for hundreds of years until one day a virus spread in the village causing many people to die. The virus causes sores to form on patient’s skin, the sores grow big and is very itchy which causes villagers to keep scratching. This causes them to bleed until they die. The people could not find any treatment to the virus and they died out in big masses. This continued until a person appeared and introduced himself as one of the tribespeople of the Unan tribe and that he could help them. He treated all the people there and they all thanked him. They asked him for the treatment method but he would not tell them and told them only he and his offsprings could save them. After he died, his son took over and helped the villagers. This continued for centuries to come and due to this, they treat the tribesman’s generations with high regards. The villagers called them the medicine boy or the medicine girl.

“It’s time to let you know the secrets of our family, Una,” Una’s parents called to Una. Una is the next medicine girl of the village and now it is her turn to treat the villagers. Una had always been curious of how her parents treated the villagers and what secrets does her family have. She is very happy that it is finally her turn because now she gets to know the secrets of her family. Una said happily, “I would love to know, please tell me!” Una’s parents smiled and said, “Una, the secret is that our ancestor, the tribesman that first came into the village brought a treasure from the Unan tribe that can cure any diseases, but, this treasure has some side effects, it cures the patient but caused the virus to spread to their offspring and it breaks out when the offspring is 18 years old or older.” Una was shocked, no wonder the virus existed in the village for centuries to come! She screamed, “You guys are not helping the villagers, you guys are harming them!” Una’s parents looked at one another and said, “Una, now that you know the secret, you have to keep the secret or we are all gonna die, continue to do what we have always done.”

Una did not want her parents to die so she decided to listen to them. Her parents took her to a cave and showed her the treasure. The treasure was a big clam, it looked like an ordinary clam but the size was not like a normal clam. Una’s parents led her to the big clam and opened the clam. To Una’s surprise, the big clam had a dead body inside! Una was horrified and said in a stuttering voice, “…Why…why…is there a dead body… inside?” Una’s parents reassured her and said, “Una, this is how it works, the big clam likes to eat humans so we need to give it a human sacrifice once a year and the big clam gives us a bottle of medicine as return.” Una was horrified and said, “I am not doing this…” Una’s parents looked at Una with a nervous expression and said, “Una, please, you have to take over, we can’t keep doing this.” And they proceeded to bow down to Una, Una immediately stopped them and said, “Fine.” Hearing this, they quickly got up and hugged Una.

Una was just assuring her parents though, she didn’t want to do such a horrific deed. The next morning, Una ran to the village center and yelled for every villager to come. All the villagers gathered around to listen to their next medicine girl. Una told all the truth to the villagers and told them it was all a lie. Una’s parents immediately tried to stop Una but they were too late. The villagers all found and they decided to go with Una to the cave. The whole crowd of the people all started for the cave, Una was in the lead and Una’s parents were both tied up in a cage. Once they entered the cave, they all saw the big clam, Una rushed up to it and opened the big clam. The dead body was inside, everyone was shocked and started murmuring. The village had been losing one person once a year but they all couldn’t find the reason why, now they finally know why.

“Burn the witches, burn the witches!” They seized Una and her parents and tied them to a pole then proceed to burn them with fire, Una’s parents turned to Una and said, “Una, look, this is what happens if we say the truth! We were just trying to save them!” Una shouted back, “But this is only harming them! Mom, dad, we have to be honest!” The villagers all shouted and lit the pile of wood on fire. The fire engulfed the pole and the three humans on the pole…
