The Figure

The sound of my heals ‘click, clacking’ down the long corridor of the old airport was piercing my ears and made me rethink the decision on even coming to this particular airport, but I was in a rush to make it back home to my small lovely town in Denver and the Uber ride would have been to expensive had I’d gone any further then my current location.

The flight was due to take off in a few hours and my annoyance only grew more and more as the seconds progressed. It has been two minutes since I entered this long creepy hallway and still hadn’t came across the women’s bathroom. I turned a sharp corner and bumped into a tall man.

“I am so sorry!”

The man stared at me with this dark look in his eyes that made me so uncomfortable.

“No worries…”

He was about to walk past me when I quickly caught his attention.

“Can you tell me where the women’s bathroom is at?”

Without a word he lifted his long finger and pointed to a door to the left of the hall.

“Thank you!”

Without so much as a smile the man left and I rushed into the bathroom to relieve myself.

Once done I went to the mirror and fixed up my makeup, and rearranged my thick wooly like hair. A loud grumbling sound came from my stomach as a sigh passed my lips.

Airport food…certainly not my type of food but I got to do what I got to do.

After exiting the bathroom and heading back the way I came There was a tall figure in the distance of the corridor. Not thinking much of it I continued walking, only growing suspicious when a bad feeling twisted in my stomach.

Somethings not right…

I paused and stared at the figure that only then came out from the shadows.

“What the fuck!”

It was that same man from earlier who gave me directions to the restroom. He was advancing to me at a speed that was so aggressive I stumbled back before regaining my common sense. With just that I quickly took my heels off and ran back in the direction of the bathroom in a panic.

What the hell is going on!?

“Come back here!”

I ran track for many years and so I knew he wouldn’t be catching up to me anytime soon but my fright had tears rolling down my cheeks. The most horrible thing I could think of right now came to light and I was forced to stop running because it was a dead end with nowhere to turn but back the way I’d ran. There was a door off to the right that said ‘Custodian closet’ and quickly I opened the door and slipped in shutting it as quietly as possible.

Echos bounced off the empty corridor and I could hear him getting closer and closer.

“You can’t hide forever darling!”

My hand shot up to cover my mouth and nose to prevent my harsh breathing from giving my hiding spot away but I almost cried out in horror as the shadow of his shoes formed from underneath the closet that I was in.

“I think…”

There was a pause in his barley formed sentence before the door was ripped open with brutal force.

“….I found you!”

He dragged me out of the closet and covered my mouth with a dirty cloth and before I could try to get away my body fell limp and my brain went foggy.
