Message to the Moon

i didn’t write this for the prompt but it fits so here we are

Dear Moon,

Who engraved those craters in your soul?

Was leaving you in the dark their goal?

Or did they etch their secrets in charcoal?

At least you never lost your glow,

Even through the falling snow,

Your beating heart is always shown.

Dear Moon,

I’m sorry we left our mark on your skin,

Placed flags that pricked you like a pin,

Lit lamps and ruined the endless din,

I’m sorry we took samples of your life,

Picked you apart with our knife,

And asked you to pick a price.

Dear Moon,

Why do you carve yourself away?

Thick then thin within a day,

Full to gaunt as you decay,

I fear you get darker as time goes by,

What will happen if our moon dies?

Tell me your secrets, old moon, so wise.

Dear Moon,

Listen as I tell you this,

Look skywards and cast yourself a wish,

The stars with listen, feel their kiss,

Their dust will rain down from above,

You’ll here them chirping down like doves,

“Remember, Moon, that you are loved.”
