POEM STARTER

Write a poem that centres around the motif of butterflies.

Different species of butterflies can be symbolic of different concepts, and their behaviours and lifecycles can reflect or inspire human emotions.

Dissolving To Fly

Slip sweetly to slumber Assured of yourself, Cocooned in your chamber Hidden from self Sit in the soup Dissolving each day Nothing to remember Who you were yesterday The days wearing on As your skin starts to change, A memory of crawling To a goal in the haze Constantly searching To transform and fly Now swimming in trauma Waiting to dry Feeling so cramped In this old, worn out skin Cracking and peeling What an ugly thing! Spreading the wings Your dreamed up from your mind. Feeling so real As the breeze swirls on by Flying so high Transformed before eyes At last! I am the butterfly
