The Hero

“How do I say this?” I started.

My girlfriend sat across from me at the dinning room table. We lived together for three years, in a luxurious apartment in the heart of new york city, with a view of the never sleeping city from our dinning room window.

“Say what?” Stephany asked.

Stephany wasn’t who I imagined as my dream girl, as a kid I dreamt of becoming a superhero with a supermodel girlfriend, or a celebrity actress wife, but Stephany wasn’t any of that. Stephany was a college student who stayed up late and ate instant ramen, but she sure did look like the model of my dreams.

“You didn’t do anything bad did you?” She asked with suspicious eyes.

“No! No,” I explained, “It’s just. I don’t think you’ll believe me. It’s an absurd thing I have to tell you.”

“I don’t think you’d lie to me, so just go ahead and say it.”

“I’m the superhero, I’m Vindicate. I’m him seriously.”

“Oh, I knew that already.”

“You already knew that? What how?”

“For starters I don’t know how else you’d be able to afford this apartment. The superhero department pays you heroes a lot I presume, but that wasn’t the final factor.”

“What was it then?”

“I saw you using your powers to heat up a slice of bread to create toast.”

I laughed after realizing how careless I was with my powers, “I see. I need to be more cautious of those around me then.”
