POEM STARTER
Write a blank verse poem on a topic that's important to you.
Blank verse poetry doesn't rhyme, but has a very strict structure which builds a melody through rhythm. (One way to create this is to structure each line with the same amount of syllables, and the same syllabic stresses, like you might if you were writing the verses of a song.)
[untitled blank verse]
On the way to perfect,
she let her arms get sore.
She held up all the burdens,
while nearly dropping to the floor.
She didn’t seem to care, though,
as she held her head quite high.
Her smile looked genuine,
and she always helped around.
She was a hero to everyone,
but her arms were still sore.
They thought they knew her,
but she didn’t even know herself.
She lost her way to perfection,
and on the way, she lost her.
Nobody seemed to notice,
because her smile looked genuine,
but her eyes looked at the floor.
She was a hero to everyone,
and she carried heavy burdens.
No one seemed to look at her,
and notice how much she was sore.
And when someone left her
because she was human,
all she did was sit there
and stare sadly at the door.
She wasn’t perfect,
but she tried her hardest.
And when people walked out,
her perfect smile faded.
She was no longer the smartest,
and her voice wasn’t loud.
She wasn’t perfect,
because when she tried to be,
nothing was as difficult,
as watching her love me.
She tried to find perfect,
but the burdens it carried
only made her weak and sore.
And it really hurt her
when I walked out the door.
