Who cares

He stood in the dimly lit alley, rifling through a bag. It had belonged to a woman, maybe twenty years old, and full of life. He didn’t think about her. He didn’t care.

She now lay a few steps from him, barely breathing. Her blonde hair lay in a crown around her pale face. “All I have is £5” she had told him. He didn’t care.

Only a handful of steps away, the Main Street was bustling. Busy shoppers and office workers rushed about their day, unknowing of the horrors occurring in the dark. They didn’t care.

Eventually the man found what he wanted, her purse. In it was just what she had said. He pulled out the 5 pound note and threw the rest to the side. He sauntered away without bothering to look back at the woman. Her breathe hitched as she stared at the blue sky and slowly faded. She no longer cared.
