STORY STARTER

The first sentence of your story starts with ‘Birds circled overhead’.

Think about how the type of birds you choose can symbolise the themes of the story.

Perspective

Birds circled overhead.

“Guys, look at the birds. Aren’t they pretty? The black birds look so cool against the gray skies” she says with child like glee.

“No mummy, the sky is white” her eldest son responds.

“Oh the sky looks gray to me” she replies.

“It’s white mummy” he reiterates, more defiantly. Because when you’re 7 years old, your opinion is fact.

“Ok, the sky is white” She agrees, in order to move the conversation in the direction she wants.

“But do you see the birds? Aren’t they beautiful ?” She continues.

She’s trying desperately to capture a cute mother-kids moment in her memory bank. Something to draw on when the days get boring and monotonous.

“ I don’t see any birds” her second son whines.

“They are on Zac’s side” her first daughter replies.

She says it with the sassiness of someone who is always happy to be in the know.

“I still don’t see it” her second son complains.

“Mummy I feel left out” he continues.

“ awwww, I’m sorry you do. Maybe when we get home and come out of the car we can look for more birds then” she reassures him.

“It doesn’t make sense why mummy thinks the sky is gray when it’s white” her first son injects.

“Back pack” her second daughter who is only 18-months old chimes in.
