The Me Before You

I am leaving the airport a different woman than I came.

The me I knew before you simply no longer exists.

She doesn’t laugh at what was.

She doesn’t cry at what could have been.

She is simply not here.

She is nothing.

She died when you decided she was no longer worth it.

But, I do not mourn her passing.

She didn’t know,

The hurt, the pain, the cost

Of loving you.

She did not know to put herself first.

She did not know to stand up.

And you are not to blame for that.

Instead of focusing on you

I should have focused on loving her

With all that I have

Instead of giving you the beauty of her

Without the beast.
