Red Fields

“Wow,” Lily spoke in a voice filled with awe, “when they said the world might end in fire never did I think they meant like this. Red chrysanthemums do bring a firey touch though.”

“Indeed.” River nodded looking at the scenery ahead. It was almost like they were mere ants in a field rather then a water elemental and a human earth elemental hybrid.

“Do you think I could make flowers that big?” Lily asked more to herself then to her traveling companion. River looked over at her, their neutral expression never faltering despite the surprise they felt.

Sometimes they managed to forget that she wasn’t a natural born hybrid, but rather a young woman who had gone through horific experimentation and the result, one of many unnatural hybrids who had unwillingly joined the game of sadistic anger disguised as rebellion.

“Riv?” Lily called breaking the water elemental out of their thoughts.

“Apologies, I was reflecting.”

“It’s cool,” Lily nodded, “want me to repeat what I said?”

“That would be appreciated yes.”

“I was saying there probably isn’t any soldiers shoving people into marshal law camps in there, plus I bet the earth elementals who made this are long gone. It’s good for hiding from any of the mind controlled hybrids after me so you won’t have to worry about hurting anyone.” She pointed out.

“Yes you harbor good points.” They agreed, “there may be some survivors in rhere as well.”

“I can take care of them if they end up being jerks.” She smirked playfully.

“Lily.” River crossed their arms disapprovingly.

“Kidding, kidding.” Lily giggled putting her red hood over her head as she began to lead the way into the red fields.

River only shock their head with a small smile of amusement, though they didn’t really know if she was truly joking or not.

As they followed behind the young woman they watched as she tried to make her own contribution to the chrysanthemums; even making some as big as the ones ahead.

It was enduring but also strange how despite having had her whole world turned around and change so gargantuantly, what with experimentation and being put in a chamber of comatose hybrids, along with having to play a vicious game of hide and seek with her captor in a world being taken over by elementals in an apocalyptic case to take back Mother Earth, Lily seemed to take this in like a machine, learning and adapting.

No, scratch that.

Not a machine,

A plant.

A touch-me-not to be more precise.

Lily walked the fields with such pride and joy as if she to were breathing in the new world with so much more ease.
