Hold On
The pavement shifts and crumbles beneath my feet
While the “progress” of a modern world
Buzzes like a mosquito
Annoying and bold.
Cars spew smoke
While ceaseless noise deafens ears
Not meant for this constant assault
But meant for nature’s calming cheers.
Lights flash, people scream
Buildings rise all around
Eyes behind glass leering down
At the always rushing crowd.
I feel lost, stuck in a daze
Minutes blur, whizzing passed
As I struggle through another day
I can’t help but feel aghast.
And just when I think all is lost
A pop of color catches my eye.
My eyes drift to the fortunate crack
Where a flower of yellow has my heart soaring with joy.
I stand to admire the Dandelion soldier
Standing strong and proud
Enduring and thriving
Despite the threats of the endless crowd.
Despite being small, this friend has taught me a lesson
One that embodies triumph and grit
And this wisdom I will cling to in my darkest days
“Wherever there is light, the flowers will find it.”
So while your days may seem dark, my friend,
Promise me you’ll hold on tight
Because always at the end of the tunnel,
There is a sliver of light.
