The Illusion Of Freedom

I know why the caged bird sings,

It’s soul has been broken and beaten,

But her heart still burns and rings.

To love is to live, or else become empty

To starve someone of their passion,

eventually sucks their soul completely.

Surrounded by chains of steel,

For what reason?

Other than that she refused to kneel.

Abandoning the dull life of the doves,

Is to choose to fly over the gold cages,

But fall back into their gloves.

To fly is a dream, an unsuccessful dream.

No bird can survive on its own,

once we’ve tamed them, they can only dream.

I know why the caged bird sings,

It understand the illusion of freedom,

But our hearts hope to survive,

So we sing.
