Working Away

I sat there typing at my outdated worn out computer. I sigh and look at the clock, only 3:00pm I sigh and rub my eyes. “Get back to work Emily” my manager, Kyle commanded. He slammed down another heap of papers onto my desk. “Stay after work and file these documents since you want to waste precious company time” he scolded. It was like this everyday now. I did this job to learn how to code now I’m stuck as a stupid paper filer. “Intern” is what they called me…… I’ve been here for a year now. None of them even know what my name is or if I even exist. The radio we had that played old songs started to make a ear screeching, drawn out *beeeeeeep*. We all turn out attentions to the device. A voice started to say “WE INTERRUPT THIS AFTERNOON BROADCAST BY ANNOUNCING THAT THE SUN WILL NOW EXPLODE IN T-MINUS 60 MINUTES. WE HEAVILY SUGGEST TO GO HOME AND SEEK CONTACT WITH LOVED ONES FOR ONE LAST TIME. GOOD AFTERNOON AND GOODBYE” *beeeeep* Everybody started freaking out racing out the doors even pushing each mother down. The music continued as if nothing was happening to the outside world. I let out a small chuckle and grabbed the knife that I kept in my small handbag for protection. After all this time, the moments where I was called into Kyle’s office and he would touch me in ways that I never wanted. I tried to scream but he covered my mouth, the times he would say that he would always win and be on top now it was my turn. I laughed and walked into his office heels clicking against the carpet. I knocked, “Come in” I walk in and mess up my hair, there he was, laying down and drinking whiskey out of a flask. “Hey doll” he cooed I giggled and sat onto his lap, he let out a lustful laugh. He started to trail kisses down my neck, I gripped my knife and plunged it into his neck. He started to gasp for air only getting a few little breaths in. “Now look who’s on top!” I mocked getting off his lap and stepping back to admire my work. He eventually stopped moving covered in his own crimson blood. The radio came back on “T-MINUS 10…9…8…7” I sighed and shoved him out of his chair and sat down. “Right on time” I muttered as the air started to get stuffy and a bright light now starting to get closer and closer. I closed my eyes and waited. This was it.
