The big day

I took a deep breath as I looked at the mirror. A beautiful bride looked back at me. “Today’s finally the day,” I silently said to myself. “Did you say something?” my bridesmaid, Maria, asked. “I was just talking to myself,” I said back, feeling foolish. She looked at me, her eyes admiring. “You look gorgeous, Beth.” I grinned at her. “Thank you, Marie.” Just then, somebody knocked on the door. I mentally prepared my self for what was coming.

My father greeted me on the other side of the door. It was finally time. “You look gorgeous, darling,” he said, tearing up. He led me down the stairs, and I suddenly felt panic surge through me. What if he says no? I immediately brushed away that thought. Adrian wouldn’t do that to me. My dad stopped in front of the door. “You ready?” he asked, smiling at me. “I always have been,” I responded. He looked at me one more time before he opened the door.

I felt myself freeze. There were so many people. “One step at a time,” my dad whispered into my ear. So, slowly, we made our way down the aisle. And that’s when I saw him. Adrian, looking perfect. My Adrian. I kept walking, arriving right in front of him. I couldn’t stop myself from smiling. “Take good care of her,” I heard my dad whisper. “I wouldn’t imagine doing anything else,” he responded, eyes still on me. “You may be seated,” the priest said.

“Do you, Adrian Smith, promise to take Elizabeth Hall, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better and for worse, for richer and for poorer, in sickness and in health, til death will you part.” Adrian looked at me, his eyes full of so much love. “I do,” he responded, eyes not leaving me. “And do you, Elizabeth-“ “I do,” I said, cutting him off. “You may now kiss the bride,” the priest said. And as I felt Adrian’s lips against mine, I knew we would be together forever.
