POEM STARTER
Write a poem inspired by a colour.
Red
Red—the color that unites us, those born with anger and those born through love
The connection, beyond family, yet found in blood
Red is much like a person’s true form
Some can recognize it at a glance, as if it were the norm
While for others, it’s like traversing a storm
Of misdirection they’ve managed to tackle since they were born
Red flags—seemingly a bad sign, by all means
“Everyone has a red flag,” often far more than it seems
Ignorance is bliss, and we blissfully seek out green
When our reality is red, we often choose to dream
Red alert! A sign of imminent danger
Red eyes mask the intent of approaching strangers
In the face of this red alert, we remain vigilant
For “red is a symbol for long-lost innocence”
Do I seem like red to you? Whatever version you’ve come to perceive
What if I told you my red was different? Would you be in disbelief?
The red that binds us all seems so inconsistent, yet is free from deceit
For red, much like our connection, is whatever you’re ready to believe
The red that binds us all often changes, much like a leaf
