Misunderstandings
As I look up, I see Kam staring at me. His eyes are filled with pain.
I hate it.
But I know it’s for the best.
As I reach my hand up to touch his face, he holds it and lifts my head to his shoulder.
Holding me in a grassy green meadow, a perfect view of the sky… this is how I’d always wanted it to end.
“Don’t be scared Kam, I’ll see you again.”
That sparked more tears in his eyes.
His handsome blond hair shimmered in the sunlight.
At least I would die in peace, it was for the best anyway.
I didn’t belong in his world… a literal fairytale. I was supposed to be in the human world.
They would’ve killed me anyway.
“This is for the best, and you know it.”
I reached for the dagger strapped around his waist and handed it to him.
Fear and panic struck his eyes, and he shook his head wildly.
“No- no Carly, I can’t, you know I can’t.” His voice reached my ears, weak and fragile.
“Please,” I reached for his face again, “I’m in too much pain, I have too much sadness inside, I need this kam.”
Kam stared at my bloody leg, I was losing blood quickly.
He turned to me, sadness overcoming his face, and nodded.
He took the dagger in his hand and lifted me to his face, giving me one last hug.
I felt the sharp blade go through my back.
I smiled as I saw my last view of the sky. No matter where I was, the sky was always the same.
Kam had told me that.
My vision slowly blackened, and I gave Kam’s hand one last squeeze before the world went dark.
I could barely make out faint yelling, my body gently falling on the ground.
Hopefully, he had made it.
The guards would take my body and burn it. Ceremonial probably.
The witch had warned me about this. About Kam. That’s why I had doubts about him.
But now I understand.
“He will give you death, and you will love him for it.”
