Who Lurks There

Another blinker off the pen

And my head is floating in the clouds.

I was feeling weightless when

I heard the strangest sound.

I thought it was the wind

Just blowing my senses in.

But a shadow crept

Closer now to where I slept.

I called out into the night,

Who lurks there in the dark?

Surely, I’m not losing my mind.

My senses are still somewhat sharp.

Alas, my mother would disagree.

She says I’m smoking too many trees.

Put down the devil’s lettuce

And get on your knees.

Pray the temptation away

And live to see another day.

Perhaps it is her on the other side,

Nagging me until I die.
