POEM STARTER

‘If desires are a flame, then I am a wildfire.’
Use this line to inspire a poem or short story.
Greed
If desires are a flame, then I am a wildfire
And I am to blame, I cannot acquire
All of the treasures, mine to admire
Yet nothing measures what I require
Greed is my flaw, though I feel no shame
And you may be in awe, but I’m not the same
All of these things, under my name
The wealth of kings, mine to claim
I am trapped still, under the heavy claw
Filled with the thrill, breaking the law
I can only lose, there will be no draw
No one to the rescue, my last hurrah
The one thing I lack of, I cannot fulfill
If push comes to shove, I know I’d kill
To feel the heat, get rid of the chill
I should not cheat, but I know I will
One thing cannot be bought, that is love
Because in thought, it’s pure as a dove
But love is twisted, and I fit that glove
Maybe it existed, below and above
Money has made me crazy, I’ve been caught
My memory is hazy, but that's my mugshot
I forget much, but I remember that I fought
Fought for his touch, to get a fair shot
I had everything, but still I needed more
I wanted a ring, someone to live for
I wanted his affection, for it is him I adore
More than my collection, my trinkets galore
I want something immaterial, something real
Greater than anything asterial, nor genteel
Someone to love me, not as a part of a deal
Not a care for the money, to whom I am ideal
My greed led me away, there is no hope
This is how I pay, falling down this slope
Into loneliness, with which I cannot cope
Find my holiness, to whatever scope
This is what I get, for being so callous
I am forever in debt, stuck in this palace
All alone, yet lets raise a chalice
Let it be known, don't treat others with malice
