Thumb Of The Clock

There I was, a kid

Under the tick and tock

Of my aggressively progressive clock

Racing for the end of my

High school year

To enter what I was to choose

College or career

The pressure of choosing one thing

to be for the rest of my life

Whether it’s teacher, or doctor,

Business woman or midwife

The plan is set in stone

I’ll be this one

This is the way I should go

All to come to a fork in the road

A new season has come

And I am as young as 30 going on 31

I’m stuck, I think

I’m trapped in this identity

The clock ticked and tocked

But now I’m calling their bluff on our formulated destiny
