Monstrous

DiJonae climbed farther into the deep wooded thicket. It was silent except for the crunching of her boots on the leaf covered ground.

Suddenly, as DiJonae stepped over the tall bushes, she gasped. The giant hairy monster was sitting on the ground, drinking from the pool of water.

What should she do? The monster was going to tear apart her bones and use them as toothpicks. She started to back away, but the beast picked up on her sound. It growled ferociously.

DiJonae started hyperventilating. She was about to turn and sprint as fast as possible, when the monster turned away and whined. Actually whined.

Like it was in pain.

Again, her instinct told her to run, but her heart said: “What the heck.” She took a step closer.

And another, and more. She was neck and neck with the beast.

The monster whined again, softer now. “Shh.” DiJonae whispered as soft as she could muster. “I’m going to help you.”

She searched for the injury on the animal, and found an open wound on the hairy leg. It was very deep. “No wonder you hurt.” She told the animal in a soothing voice. She reached into her satchel and grabbed the glass serum with the antiseptic inside it. She pored its entirety onto the wound. It healed instantly.

“There.” She said in a normal voice. She stroked the animal’s fur. It purred.

“You know.” DiJonae spoke to the animal. “I’m beginning to think you’re more of a sweetie than a monster.”
