POEM STARTER
Fire and Flames
Write a poem where fire is the central theme, whether this be physical or a metaphorical burning.
Burning Up
Drinking and smoking are my twin flames
From the moment of drinking to the moment of inhaling
I can not separate the two
For they act as the same a distraction from life
As I roast away another casualty of feeling to much in this world
Taking a shot is a lot easier when you are used to pain
The burn of the liquor slowly erases my own embers
As I let the fire take its course down my throat
My tongue is slowly withering away with only the taste of ash to keep me sane
I think this is good it means the liquor is burning me
For once I am not the cause of the pain in my stomach
Lighting a cigarette is fun when you no longer fear the flames
No it only took years of endless burning
The pain of the flames is nothing compared to the coals in my heart
For they have been scorching my lungs for far too long for me to hesitate before I inhale
So I inhale and the flames flicker as the nicotine hits the back of my throat
Burning me and turning my throat into nothing but blisters
It is easier to inhale then it is to remember the pain
So I smoke to drink and I drink to smoke
Letting myself go as I feel the embers of who I am rot away
Over taken by the fire in the liquor and the smoke in the cigarette
So take me to the river and watch the water boil over
I am nothing but a vessel for pain
