Cartoon Physics

“If watching cartoons has taught me anything, it’s that gravity doesn’t start working until you look down.” Ben chuckled, but I was not laughing.

“Nothing about this situation is funny to me.”

“Well, too bad! I’m making it funny, so deal with it.” I was trying not to look down, not because gravity would start working, but because I would probably have a panic attack if I did. We were hanging onto each other for dear life above the rushing river below us. The thin and breaking rope keeping us up and alive was breaking slowly and the cliffs were close on each side of us.

“Hey, hey listen, we’re gonna be okay. Okay? Tell me you’re okay.”

“I’m okay.” I said, relaxing slightly. The clouds drifted above us and I tried not to scream. They looked so close I could almost touch them, but letting go of Ben’s hands would have meant us falling to our own demise.

“They should be coming for us soon. I hope.” He said.

“You did contact them didn’t you?”

“Uhhhh…”

“Ben?!” If he hadn’t contacted the chopper, then we were stuck, dangling off of this cliff, at least until we quit.

“You know what? We can’t do this right now. We’re just novices.”

“Ben, please stop saying that, I’m not starting this level over. Plus, the level would be beaten by now if you had contacted the chopper and completed the objective.”

“Ughhhhh.” Moaned Ben. I pulled off my virtual reality headset and tapped him on the shoulder. He pulled his headset off. “I’ve got a great idea.”

“What?”

“Let’s play a board game.”

“Sounds like fun.”

(This is definitely not my best work. Apologies to all.)
