WRITING OBSTACLE
Submitted by Lizzie Rose.
Write a poem or story about fog, steering away from any horror themes.
Usually when we think of fog, our minds come up with a daunting image. Try to make your story/poem beautiful.
I tried
I think fog is beautiful, so let me try-
Swirling mists of hope
coalescing to form a figure
She reaches out her hand to me
And I take it
It is soft and cool to the touch
Tendrils of fog wrap around me and they
start to pull me in
and suddenly the figure is
A giant,
hiding in the shadows,
dark and-
Oh, now look what I've done. Let me try again-
Clouds are not solid, they say
I guess that's true
But the feeling of being inside one
is so nice
Like a gentle spray
settling on your hair
the silence making all the fear go away
...
silence
silence
silence
The mist is claustrophobic
I can't breathe
I can't breathe
I am drowning in fog
Someone help me!
But they can't hear me scream
So I run and scream and shout and-
Why can't I get the visions out of my head?
Every time I try it's like
There's something haunting me
I cannot take them away
They are a part of who I am
But let me try one final time-
The mist is neither friend nor foe
The mist has no figure nor walls
It is simply water vapor clinging to itself
Making me see things I wish not to see
And hear things I wish not to hear
Perhaps I over-thought this again
Perhaps the mist
Is simply
Itself
