The Blessing

I watch him walk through the halls, his cross necklace dangles from his neck. He has a big smile on his lit up face.

“Wow, you look so happy,” I say. The man smiles and pats my shoulder. “My friend, I’ve just experienced God’s love in the biggest form for the first time of my life.”

I sigh but attempt to hide it with a forced smile. I’ve been waiting for that moment my entire life. I’ve prayed, gone to church every Sunday, and devoted my life to Jesus. But I haven’t had that moment.

“That’s great,” I say, my voice coming out like my mind.

The man looks at me and places his hand on my shoulder and bows his head. Quietly, he says,”Lord my Father, please bless this man with your love and grace. Help him let go of his possessions and fully trust in you.”

I lift my head as he lets me go.
