This is lovely! If it’s character development specifically that you want to focus on, you could maybe try to include small, specific details and character quirks, eg crow’s feet around his eyes from smiling too much, the way they always hum a certain song when there’s a lapse in conversation, or maybe having a specific reaction whenever they’re annoyed/surprised etc. Obviously these are just random examples off of the top of my head but these are the types of things I do to try and build a more detailed picture in the reader’s head, as well as giving them something to relate to.
