The Last Day Of The Semester

There was a collective gasp of dread and concern. "I’m fine. It’s not my blood", Laura squeezed out in a voice almost joyful. She was trembling and smiling stupidly, keeping "I’m fine, I’m really fine" on repeat. And then, faster than anyone could take a breath, she fainted, her pale body dropping on the floor and her head hitting the corner of a nightstand with a loud thud. We exchanged looks that were paralysed with fear in the very same manner; for a moment, every face in the room became a copy of one another. Jessica snapped out of it first and rushed towards Laura. She was the only one there who had taken first-aid classes during this semester, so the rest of us just stood helplessly while she was checking for her pulse. I couldn't help but notice that Jessica frantically moving her fingers up and down Laura’s neck was taking awkwardly long. "I... Can’t feel it." - she finally said with uncertainty. She opened her mouth to say something else, but at this very moment, we heard something different. Joshua, whose absence in the room we completely forgot, was screaming from the kitchen. I was the nearest to the door, so I ran towards the screams only to find shivering Joshua standing over the dead body of the class monitor, who was drifting in what appeared to be a lake of blood. My mouth kept opening and shutting on its own. It was the last day of the semester, and we had two corpses in the house.
