WRITING OBSTACLE

An alien and a human discuss the concept of love.

Think about what love might mean to another species, and how they would discuss it or think about it differently from humans.

Q&A

**…among other things!**

After abducting unspecified persons, sticking them in a room, and making them ask and answer questions as a representative of their entire respective species, I bring you this Q&A! I’ve found this exercise to be best when considering my worldbuilding.

Please be aware that information may be frustratingly inconsistent, my subjects are either for SOME reason unable to speak on behalf of their entire species, there’s a translation error, or, more likely, they’re rebelling and telling lies to confuse you.

_(Fancy way to say that details are still in the works!)_

Without further ado…

**Q:** _So you aliens don’t have day or night? So how do you keep time? No, how did you INVENT time?!_

__

__

**A:** _First off, I’m not an _alien_ any more than you are. Neither of us come from… wherever this is. Second, I have no idea, I’m not a historian. I’m sure different civilizations—which need to run on a schedule, obviously—found some way to track time, whether it was based on natural phenomena or not. I know not everyone used the same system, so it was a mess. Eventually someone decided on standard units. It’s all digital now anyway._

__

**Q:**_ Okay, fair point about the alien label. So… are you a man, woman, or somethin’ else?_

**A:** _Yes._

**Q:** _Huh?_

**A:** _If you were asking whether I am _male_ or _female_, the answer is both. All members of my species have male _and_ female reproductive organs._

**Q:** _So… how do you know what the difference is? Between male and female?_

**A:** _Because there are other animals on our planet. Binary sex is _way_ more common. And I ask you not ask more reproductive questions unless you want to answer any in return._

**Q:** _That is also fair._

__

__

**A:**_ When do you suppose they’ll feed us?_
