COMPETITION PROMPT
Write a poem under the theme: 'The Beauty in Betrayal'.
Just One Bite
You know them as villains
Yet human just like you and me
Destroyed hope for billions
But maybe it just had to be
A life in the garden
In harmony and perfect bliss
No need for a pardon
Still, is that really all there is
Soft hissing in the grass
Morning sun sparkling on spiked scales
A chance too good to pass
Snake throwing the world of its rails
“Trust me Eve, my dear friend
I will never dare deceive you
Past God you shall ascend
Take this final step to break through”
“What? You are still not sure?
Your God won’t care, I won’t betray
This apple is your cure
Just one bite and you’ll never pray”
The serpent fooled the two
Just one small bite was all it took
Eden is lost for you
The end for us? Let’s take a look
Don’t weep, don’t sulk, don’t cry
Betrayal so full of beauty
I speak truth, never lie
Living life our only duty
Look at Alex the Great
Starving for glory, seeking fame
Cut the knot in one slate
Desire burning like a flame
Egypt adored their queen
More stunning than the morning sun
Gaius, Mark, both so keen
Cleopatra had fun
Knowledge for all the earth
Gutenberg lifted our darkness
Ideas are so much worth
The wisdom of books is timeless
New lands we would explore
Columbus sailing far away
Future beyond this shore
Find something novel every day
What’s hidden in this smile?
Beauty of human mystery
Feel renaissance life style
Mona Lisa our history
He said the world is round
The church so crimson with fury
Galileo unbound
Science and proof now man’s jury
Beethoven is on loop
Taught us how much our ears can feel
Picks me up in one swoop
How a few notes a soul can heal
Madame Curie pioneer
Risking all for revelation
Her passion we revere
In knowledge we found salvation
Just one bite starts it all
Without it who, where would we be?
Eden a cage so small
Broke the prison, finally free
Just enjoy the sweet little things
That alone will give you your wings
