A beautiful prison is still a prison

the song of the caged bird is seldom as beautiful as the sparrows cry

which is only heard

in the darkness of the wild

and in the shadows of the sunrise

they sing a song of freedom

the song of strangers to lovers

of bonds stronger than brothers

and of unrealised potential

to be.

Out of the gilded bars is an untold song

from the abundance of nourishment

an unquenchable hunger

An artists array of colours on its back

but the gaze of a marbled statue

marvel at the creature they say

look how it sings

but the truth is

you will never hear

the caged bird’s song

a beautiful prison

is still a prison
