Giving You The Stars… (MONTH 9)

I gotta take extra care.”

BACKSTORY:

I was Midnight Empire on the game we played. My spot represented the moon, cloaked in eerie darkness. Weirdly enough, I only talked to you around midnight, your time— halfway across the world; in India.

Around month two of us blandly knowing each other, you asked me for another player name. It costed five hundred gems. Before thinking; I blurted out “Sunlight Empire” in the private chat box. To my astonishment, you changed your name to my suggestion.

Remember those times? Of us just being awkward friends? We still gave each other those weird, half-insane love looks. So this goes to my Sunlight, always bathing my dark days in your brilliant light.

________

The sun was brilliant, way too hot for the world it heated. He would beat down on workers and punish the women without sunscreen. He was a trickster, popping in and out between the clouds. He would tell everyone a sunny day was ahead— then call for rain. He was joyful, happy. Bright and smart. Everything he could be. But truthfully; the sun was lonely. He was missing something he didn’t know he needed. Every morning, when he rose from his bed of weed and sapling, he would count his rays and make sure they were all there. They always were. Yet the sun was 𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘭 missing something important.

On the other side on the world, the moon sat in her darkness. She was surrounded by silent stars and a vast open sky. Some nights, she would feel small, as if she wasn’t there. Other nights, she would feel big like the sun, as if she could light up the whole world. But she only managed a small light. She wasn’t hot, or smart or even bright. She was stone cold, dwelling in the shadows. She had nothing, wanted nothing, and hated the people that basked in her saddened darkness. She wished she could be like them.

Sometimes the moon would sneak into the sun’s light. The sun would see this and call to her softly. He would smile and dart between the clouds, playing a game of chase. One day; the sun woke and realized what he was missing was half a world away; 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘰𝘯. So he rose early that day and waved to the moon in the darkened distance. She shyly waved back and ducked beneath the treetops. It stole the Sunlight’s breath as he watched her go.

𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩 𝘶𝘱 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘩𝘦𝘳, he thought to himself. 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘴.

That day, he skipped across the sky like lightening, only to watch her disappear on the other side of the world. He was lit up in fiery anger, reaching for something that was just out of his grasp.

Meanwhile, the moon thought to herself; 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴, 𝘐 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘴𝘰 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, 𝘐 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘴𝘰 𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘦. At this, she darted out of his view. When she peeked from behind the trees, she saw him frantically searching for her within the clouds and tops of the trees.

This went on for awhile, the sun and moon struggled to reach each other and tell of their feelings. They would call across the sky and tell jokes around the earth. Like a game of chase around a round table, the two were quite a sight to see!

Then one normal day, under normal skies, the moon darted out. This time, the sun froze in awe at her beauty. The moon, who was going too fast to stop herself, crossed right in front of the sun. Tender as the rays from the sun, her lips brushed his.

And the world?

Well the world stared in awe at their eclipse.
