High Above The City

His metallic limbs rusted faster then he could’ve understood. The gripping vines entangled his arms, forcing them upwards, as he lay against a large stone. His eyes flickered rapidly, as if stuck in a limbo in of activated and deactivated. If he wasn’t careful, one wrong step and he would’ve fallen off the mountain. Fortunately for the robot, he would never take another step.

His once shiny body was now a pinnacle of wear and rust, the only somewhat shiny thing left being his name tag, which read; _Terrain-And-Force-Unit_. Although, he prefered to be called TAF-E. Snatching his last bit of strength, TAF-E placed a single, dented finger on the intercom in his ear.

“This is TAF-E.” As he spoke these words softly, another beam pierced a hole straight through the planet, the city slowly crumbling more and more.

“I am truly sorry I couldn’t stop them, Tragath.” His voice breaks, the wires in his throat falling apart with each word spoken. Suddenly, his face begins twitching, and his eyes turn red.

“No need for apologies, warrior TAF-E. I chose a wise soul to occupy.” His eyes twitch yet again, this time illuminated by another destructive beam blowing through the surface.

“I didn’t have a soul until you hijacked me. Why did you choose me of all the powerful, combat-built bots?” TAF-E’s voice gradually lowered in octave until it came to rest on a sufficient deep one. The moment it was deep, his eyes returned to the crimson color.

“Because you were my only option, rust bucket. Goodness, we have discussed this many a fortnight, ya’ know!” The blue eyes return.

“Apologies, master Tragath. I just wish I had more time to have emotions.” The crimson begins to seep over his eyes again, as if his eyes bleed every time Tragath speaks.

“I wish I had more time to battle and fight all those pesky humans who burned my land!”

“I wish I didn’t have to witness the cities destruction from atop a mountain.”

“What, you wish you were in there?”

“No. I wish I had been disabled before you brought us here.”

“I only brought us here because your precious “_leader_” was getting away! I had to place his head on a mighty pole in the name of the-“ The largest beam that has yet to be seen burns a hole straight through the core, as the ground begins rapturing.

“I understand. Maybe really all I wish was I could see Mio again. And Jira—and Genvich. And even all the other _Terrain Units_.”

“Maybe really all I wish was that I could rule over a new generation again. That pride is extinguished forever.”

“At least you had that at some point.”

“Just as you had your friends.” This time, TAF-E stays quiet and fails to respond to the words of Tragath. The planet begins piercing itself apart, the hourglass of their lives nearing the end of it’s sand supply.

“TAF-E?” Tragath speaks, but lacks a response.

“There he goes. Off with him, just like the rest. I wish I didn’t have to die high above the city, but it is certainly better then being in city at all.” The mountain begins crumbling, as Tragath awaits the end. Until, a voice breaks the silence.

“Tragath? One last thing. Thank you for choosing me.” TAF-E speaks these final words as the mountain crumbles into the void of space, all life on the planet eradicated without a glint of mercy.
