STORY STARTER
Submitted by Gabriel R. Paez
Write a story or poem involving the passage of time.
This could manifest as narrative time jumps, through aging characters, or even as a change in the environment.
Tick Tock
Time marches on with each tick of the clock
Whether or not that clock goes tick tock.
And time marching? Not such a great metaphor
But I am not sure I like anything more.
So like it or not we must have marching time
The upside is that time has a good rhyme
But this poem is silly and I must admit
I am thinking that I like it not a bit.
But just like time this poem marches on
But if you stop reading, then it will be gone
Or at least it will not continue for you
Though that will not make the saying less true.
And if you do think that the saying is wrong
Think of how much time is mentioned in song.
There is time in a bottle, time on my hands
In songs sung by soloists, songs sung by bands.
They all seem to think that our time is precious
Because we cannot save it, or keep it with us
So we should not waste any of our time
Even to read somebody’s silly old rhyme.
So remember that your time is precious indeed
Even though you might think that you have not what you need.
You must make the most of each tick of the clock
Because time marches on. Can you hear it? Tick tock.
