STORY STARTER

Write a scene where your protagonist betrays the side they’ve been on for years.
This 'side' could be an actual team or group, or an idea or arguement that the character has held for a long time.
Run.
My heart raced as he walked towards me. My brother had just killed my father. His bloodstained hands were hanging at his sides. My breathing became faster, my body was telling me to run. But for some odd reason I stayed. He locked eyes with me and chills ran down my spine, he meant to do it. As the realization hit me, my hands flew to my mouth to cover up the scream that was begging to break loose.
“What’s wrong sister?” He asked in a way that made me want to punch him.
“Why,” I swallowed hard. “Why did you kill him?”
I had stood by my brother through years of him and my fathers disagreements. Why had he killed him? They never seemed bad enough, they never came out bruised. Then a thought hit me, ‘had mom really died of a stroke, or was that Jason’s reason for killing our father?’
“I had to darling. I had no choice.” His manic smile broke through and I wanted to cry.
“No you didn’t.” I said definatly.
His face turned cold, but suddenly I wasn’t scared. “What did you say?”
“I said you didn’t need to kill him!” I yelled. Bad idea.
He stalked towards me like a animal with its prey. He grabbed my arm and I winced, he’s gotten strong.
“Take. It. Back.” He whispered.
“No, Jason. This isn’t you. Please.” I didn’t want to plead with him but I had to.
“Love does crazy things to people, Ray. You of all people should understand that.” He had that manic look in his face again.
I looked behind him at our dad, laying on the floor in his own blood. I wanted to be sick.
“Can I go up to my room?” I asked, letting the tears flow now, I knew he couldn’t stand it when I cried.
“Fine, don’t expect me to be here when you come back down, or him.” He said and pointed to him over his shoulder.
I nodded and he let me go. I calmly walked into my room and closed the door. When I was sure Jason wouldn’t follow me or was too busy trying to get the scene clean I grabbed my leather bag from my bed. I jammed it full of essentials I would need for a month or two. I then slowly opened the window and climbed out. As soon as my feet hit the ground, I ran. I ran as fast as I could. I was going to Mayas house. Her dad was a cop. He would find a way to stop my brother and put him where he belongs, and keep me safe.
When I finally got to the huge 3 story colonial style home I was so tired I felt like I would faint. When Officer Wells opened the door I let myself cry, really cry. He took me in one of his big arms and led me inside to a big black couch.
He sat in front of me but I didn’t look up. “What happened Ray?” He asked slowly.
Part of me wanted to keep this secret in my heart u til it killed me. But a bigger part, a tired part of me, was going to tell him everything. I owed nothing to Jason. He owed me nothing. I was done taking his side, I was finally gonna choose me.
“He killed him.” I heard a gasp from the kitchen and Maya ran to me and wrapped her arms around me as I whispered, “Jason killed my dad.”
