Don’t Be Fooled, Be Afraid.

When the news broke about the incident everyone was on high alert. Our small town of Augusta had never dealt with something like this. Not only had an out of town couple gone missing at the local campground. They had been found brutally beaten. The lack of witnesses, and inability to get a statement from the mangled pair made it hard for an investigation. Soon the sheriffs had finished clearing the scene and surrounding areas. They were unable to narrow down any suspects immediately. The small town of seven hundred or so was on high alert. Whoever committed this heinous attack was possibly walking the streets of the quiet little town. The men all kept there guns with them. Women and children were expected to keep all doors, and windows locked if alone. When the sheriffs were conducting there investigation one interesting piece of evidence was found. A small locket had fallen on the ground a few steps away from where the family had been attacked. Inside the locket read the words “ I love you forever” and a black and white picture of a woman. There was a slight red tint on the outside of the locket as if it had been sprayed with something. The sheriffs took this as there main piece of evidence while waiting to see if any of the family was gonna survive. The owner of the campground Mr Jack Jones had been the last person in contact with the family. He had reportedly given the family there lot number and parking pass and sent them off into the campground. Security footage from the gate at the campground proved this statement to be true. Mr jones however did inform the cops that he had issues with a local alcoholic trespassing in the campground frequently. Law enforcement knowing of the man made him a person of interest related to the case. If anyone would be back in the camping area that shouldn’t be there it would be this drunk. Finding the local addicts typically wasn’t to hard. It was usually a toss up between the local bar, the liquor store, or the park. When checking any of these police noticed nothing out of the ordinary, or anyone matching the poor description

Mr Jones had given. Feeling slightly peculiar about the entire case the investigators went to check on the families condition. The father had passed away the day before. The mother barely able to walk on was the only one that had regained consciousness. Getting a concrete statement out of her would prove difficult. However one key piece of data they get from the woman was they were attacked by a well kept younger man. Many men could match the badly worded description. It stated the suspect was a younger man with short brown hair, brown eyes, and a clean cut face. This description was a common occurrence around the area. Police found this article to be similar to the description given by Mr Jones in the campground. Investigators figured if they could find the wandering drunk they could match him to this description. That would lead to a solid case for the assault on the poor family. Proving a man trespassing, being intoxicated, and violent shouldn’t be a challenge figures the officers. What would be a challenge would be finding the man. After a couple weeks nothing had materialized with the case. The wife of the battered family had also succumb to her injuries. Leaving investigators with nothing but the description she left to work from. Finally an unsettling break in the case appeared in the form of James Jones. The son of Jack Jones had returned to town after years working multiple states over. He was a well groomed man around age thirty. He kept himself up well and put on a very strong performance about his time away from home. He was prominently involved in conversations he could center around himself. While getting himself reacclimated to the small town life James was struggling to earn a living. Working on his fathers campground clearing trees didn’t bring excitement he had found away from home. It also didn’t help close the hole Left in James heart. However the local sheriffs daughter had meant James in town while he gathered supplies. They took a fast liking to each other. The small town was slowly getting over its panic about the attack on the campground. This was all undone over night as a woman’s body was found on the edge of town by the riverbank. What had been a peaceful quiet town now had seen three lives lost in a matter of five weeks. Fear quickly swept over the town business contemplated moving completely. Panic was becoming uncontrollable. Then came the inevitable collapse of a large string of evil. The cop who first arrived on scene with the woman at the river, had found a pair of brown work boots. They had been stained dark red and thrown into the water. One of the boots was caught on a branch at the waters surface. Officers retrieved the boot. Bringing it back as evidence to be tested for dna. The dna sample only matched one known local to the area. Mr Jack jones, had the kind old man went crazy? Was the southern drawl and tattered clothing just a front? Also was there truly a possibility a man bordering seventy years old

Was committing this violent acts. The truth came out when attempting to question Mr jones. Answering as honeslty as possible you could tell the elderly man was shaken by the accusations against him. Finally as he was struggling to give coherent responses to the officers, James jones appeared offering to give his statement of his fathers whereabouts the night of the second attack. He truthfully told the officers his father was a few towns over fishing for the evening. When the officers were finished up with questioning they headed back to there patrol car. On the walk back they noticed a small red stain against the white fender of James pickup. Officers approached the truck slowly. They realized quickly this was a bloodstain. Considering the dna match found at the crime scene matched the Jones family and now this the cops returned to the door. That’s when they saw James run out the back towards the woods. The chase was on as the officers called for backup and took off after James. While eating dinner with his family the sheriffs radio went off about the incident. Upon hearing this his daughter burst into tears. As the sheriff grabbed his cuffs, gun, and flashlight his daughter pleaded with him not to hurt James. She “sobbed those hazel eyes are soft they don’t belong to a killer.” Her father unfazed just told her he had to go make sure justice was served. Upon arriving at the campground where James had disappeared into the sheriff released his dog onto the trail. Surely if the dog could get his scent he would find James in no time. The trail was cold at first as the two investigators that started the chase had lost James a little ways into the thick brush. Suddenly the dog picked upon something, and began running full speed on high alert. The sheriff knew this meant James wasn’t far. As the officers all trailed the dog towards James he made his way up into a tree. Surely they wouldn’t be able to find him here, and if they did they’d have to shoot him to get him down. A few minutes went by until James heard the loud barks of the hound dog. The men and dogs were closing in on him. Once he heard the barks just below him he knew he been found. Weighing his options he figured if he climbed high enough the officers may not know which tree he was in. Once the officers reached the dog capture became inevitable. The dog had instantly found the tree James was in. At the bottom barking like mad the dog had the men right underneath James. James decided his best course of action now was forcing the officers to bring him down themselves. However the officers had other plans as one fired a shot just mere inches from James scaring him so badly he fell. Plummeting almost twenty feet to the ground James laid badly injured on the ground the officers called for an ambulance, and began dragging the broken man. Making there back through brush towards the camping area the sheriff asked James, why he had committed those disgusting acts. James unable to speak gurgled out a raspy breath, and a little blood. The sheriff replied “ At least you got a little karma for your trouble.” James never made it to the hospital he had succumbed to his injuries before the ambulance could arrive. Thankfully after three months of suffering the small town of Augusta was finally free of the brutality being plagued upon them, from that brutal psychopath.
