The Wish
The girl stared down at at a necklace she wore around her neck. “Oh I would give anything to see her one last time” she thought. She continued down the raod the bell was about to ring. she decided she would run the rest of the way so she wouldn’t be tardy. One more tardy and she would get extra work. She made it just in time. She put her books in her desk and sat down but the bell didn’t ring. She looked at the clock that was hanging on the wall to her left it read 8 o’clock then she realized something even more odd no one was there. Her peers weren’t there and neither was her teacher. “Huh, maybe I forgot that it was canceled” she thought aloud. She collected her books got up to leave when suddenly there was a man standing in the door way. “Hello?” She said.
“Heard you have a wish to make” the man said in a deep growly voice.
“A wish?” She said confused
“Yes” the man said
“Don’t have a wish to make, you must have it wrong”she said she pushed past him and walked down the stairs.
“What if I told you I can let you see her again?”
The girl stopped in her tracks she looked at the necklace in her hand.
“Pfft… whatever” she said. She continued to walk.
“No, no it’s true” he said “turn around and see for yourself” he said she rolled her eyes, she didn’t like to be teased or lied to.
“What’s your problem she’s gone she isn’t coming back!!” She said angrily, she turned and stopped talking. Her eyes widen with curiosity. She walked over.
“What is that?” She asked she reached out to touch it. But the man grabbed her hand, stopping her from touching it.
“This isn’t free, it has a price” he said
“Uhh well..I have..1..2..3..20 dollars” she said
“ oh no.. something of value to you” the man said.
“Oh well I don’t have anything then” she said
“ oh I think you do” the man said looking at her necklace.
“What? I can’t give you this it’s important” she said holding it tight in her fist.
“Then I guess you don’t get to see her”
“Well this is important to me I can’t give it up” she said.
“Everything that’s great and worth it comes at a price, my dear child” he said. She looked down at her necklace she held so dear then looked back at him.
“You sure I’ll get to see her?” She asked. Hope in her eyes.
“Why of course I’m a man of my word” he said smiling. She gave the necklace one last gaze , taking in its beauty. She closed her hand around it and held it close to her chest.
“Ok, I’ll do it” she said looking up at the man. She took it off for the first time in years and reluctantly gave it to him.
“Prefect” he said a mischievous grin.
“You sure I’ll see her?” She asked.
“Of course, she’s just right through there now go on” he said hastily. And so with out another word she walked to the door way of darkness.
