POEM STARTER

Submitted by Maranda Quinn

Write a poem from the perspective of someone who obviously hates — or is just extremely bad at — poetry.

Try to consider why someone may feel pressured to write a poem. Love? A school project?

Because I Love You

I want you to know That when I am around you It's hard to find my mind Writing this haiku Hurts me dearly, and I Think it's a waste of time. Trying to stick to The dumb five-seven-five rule Is hard, 'cause I can't count So, you are lucky I even care about you To try and work it out. Because I love you And you know that it is true So I will keep trying But, counting on my Fingers is like hell, I Feel like I am dying I hope you take time To read it all the way through Because I do love you Huh, you got this far? Well, I have a confession I know how to count.
